Someone alerted me to the fact that Yahoo now posts MMA Weekly’s rankings. They also noted the rankings are awful. So, I headed over, scrolled through the list, and didn’t see anything that wasn’t at least arguable. I guess I could even slide on Nick Thompson being the #10 welterweight in the world (actually, I can’t, but that ruins the main point).
Then we get to the lightweights. Number one? Shinya Aoki, of course. Clearly the best lightweight in the world. OK, OK. Whatever. MMA Weekly wants to doggie hump Japanese fighters. Surely, B.J. Penn clocks in at number two. Nope! Hi, Eddie Alvarez!
OK. I looooove Eddie Alvarez. But how the hell does he get ranked above B.J. fucking Penn. For that matter, how does Aoki get the number one spot? Aoki does have a pretty solid resume, even if you completely disregard his fights with David Gardner (HELLO JAPAN), Todd Moore, and Katsuhiko Nagata. That doesn’t explain why Joachim Hansen somehow sits behind the pack at #5, since, you know, he mercked Aoki pretty fucking good.
And just for shit’s and giggles:

isn’t it funny that yahoo posted those mma weekly rankings and then in yahoos p4p list, they have bj at #6
Seems pretty par for the course for Yahoo.
